See below for riders' comments & feedback regarding the 2019 Great Weston Ride:

Please note that riders' views are really important to us as they help us to shape and improve the event from year to year, so the feedback we receive is very much appreciated.  Thank you.

Wow! What an amazingly fantastic cycling event. Superbly organised, great fun and really friendly. Great communications from registration to after the event. It's a brilliant day for riders of all levels. If you've been tempted, come along for GWR No. 11 next year.

Just wanted to say thank you. What you've got at the GWR is amazing and it’s probably the best sportive that I ride each year. Well organised, well marshalled and just a really good experience for people of all abilities and standards. See you next year.

Phil - 'Awesome'

*****

I had a brilliant ride over a lovely route. The event was well organised in every way, and I shall recommend it to friends as a must-do ride, Thank you for a great day.

Alison Joslin - 'Awesome'

This is my 7th GWR and as usual it didn't disappoint. It's always a great day and has a very relaxed and friendly feel. The ride is as easy or as challenging as you wish to make it with the choice of route extensions on your way around.  Always a great reception at the end and of course a burger and a couple of cold Ciders to aid with recovery..... I can't recommend this event enough...

Wonderful event, really well organised and executed, best day I've ever had on a bike, thank you so much.

First time doing the Great Weston Ride and what an amazing experience it was. Everything was so well organised. Already looking forward to next year!!

Kevin Jennings - 'Awesome'

This is a fabulous sporting day out for all shapes, sizes & of all abilities, it is a massive pleasure as one of the older, rounder & slower to take part in such an inclusive, encouraging, friendly environment & challenge yourself to be the Champion if just for a day!! Thank you to all those that arrange, organise & help this to be the huge success it is.

John Davies - 'Awesome'

What a fantastic well-organised cycling event. Would I recommend it? YES. Would I take part in the next one? Definitely. Thank you Great Weston Ride for a really great day in the saddle and to all the volunteers who gave up their time to make it such a special occasion. You all deserve a medal. Thank you.

Ray Derrick - 'Awesome'

My first cycling event (only started cycling earlier this year) and I absolutely loved it .... the organisation was great and it was very relaxed - you could go at your own pace and there wasn't any pressure. The marshals, medics and officials were really supportive. Will be keeping an eye out for next year's date because I want to do all the add-on's next year! Thanks for a great event!

Sam Carpenter - 'Awesome'

*****

This was my 6th year running and each year it just keeps getting better. The event runs like a well-oiled machine, the marshals (both cycling and non-cycling) were fantastic and the route signage was clear and easy to follow.

The route itself is beautiful and caters for all levels of experience, this year I chose to include all the optional extra mileage and am so glad I did, absolutely stunning coming up Cheddar Gorge!

If you only do one cycling event each year I cannot recommend the Great Weston Ride enough. Thanks to all those involved in organising and running this year's event, it is very much appreciated - will you see me next year.....you can count on  it!

Alan Desmond - 'Awesome'

*****

My first time doing this ride - simply 'ABSOLUTELY AMAZING' :) Looking forward to next year already!

Mazhar Iqbal - 'Awesome'

Thoroughly enjoyed the day. It was my first time in an organised event and I was a bit apprehensive at the start. Those concerns disappeared when the ride commenced and I tried to keep at my own pace, enjoying the scenery and weather.  Participants were a mixture of experienced riders and newbies like myself but everyone was very friendly and I appreciated the encouragement throughout the ride.  Was a bit apprehensive about Burrington Combe but it turned out to be not as bad as I was anticipating.  I think following other riders took my mind off the climb. Overall a great event, very well organised with support available if needed. Now thinking about doing other rides or sportives but will be back for GWR 2020!

Donald Beveridge - 'Awesome'

*****

Another great day out on the GWR.  Congratulations and thank you to everyone who works hard to arrange the event and run everything so well on the day.  The friendliest sportive I've done.

Kevin Pearson - 'Awesome'

*****

This was my first GWR, having been riding for years and different events I found that the GWR was very impressive. Well organised, spot-on sign posting on the routes, great communications and instructions and a finish area that made you feel like you had achieved something amazing.

S C - 'Awesome'

*****

Great, thoroughly enjoyable, well organised ride, through beautiful countryside. Darren and the team did a great job and the welcome at the finish was great. First time I've done it and first time I've done that distance. Will definitely be back for more in the future.

Mike Allen - 'Awesome'

*****

Thank you so much for organising such a lovely event. It was our first cycling event, and we were so impressed, the route was lovely and scenic, everyone was so friendly, a huge thank you to the lovely marshals too. The refreshment stops were really good. Loved every minute and already can’t wait to enter again next year!

Sarah Perry - 'Awesome'

*****

Fantastic organisation, first class event.  Always a pleasure to participate.

Phil Rollason - 'Awesome'

*****

Absolutely brilliant day - my first time but certainly not the last! Well organised, bring on next year when I’ll also tackle the GER as well.

Andrew Bisset - 'Awesome'

*****

Out of all the organised rides I do each year, the GWR is my favourite. This year for the first time I did the full route which was fabulous. Always routes that can be trusted  with great signage. I often recommend the GWR as a ride to people of differing abilities because of the excellent organisation and really good atmosphere. Thanks again for a great ride!

Bob Callaghan - 'Awesome'

*****

Very well organised, best signage of any sportive I have done and being a vegetarian was very impressed with all the food, especially the Halloumi burger.

Mark Thomas - 'Awesome'

*****

The eighth/ninth time (I think!!) and it continues to get better and better. Thanks to Darren and the team for organising such a fantastic event! We’ll be back next year I’m sure!!

Alan Neale - 'Awesome'

*****

A well-organised event, good pit stops and well signposted. Cheers.

Paul Gore - 'Awesome'

*****

2nd time I have done this...already planning to do the 3rd next year.  Brilliant, brilliant event and met some really great people along the way.

Sean Di'Anno - 'Awesome'

*****

It was my first time doing this event and it was brilliant! I did the 75 mile route which had some stunning scenery, great roads to cycle along and a few challenges too plus the signage was very easy to follow. The support at the start, the feed stops and finish of the ride made the day a great experience and to get a lovely medal and food at the end was just fab. Thank you and well done for such a well organised event!

Sam - 'Awesome'

*****

Another fantastic ride. Great route and brilliant organisation as always. Many thanks.

Matthew Steel - 'Awesome'

*****

Excellent day out, really well organised really friendly people on hand to help with anything, even the medibike team always rode past and gave a quick thumbs up to check everything’s okay, Will be doing it again next year for the 5th time running.

Verity M-C - 'Awesome'

*****

Superbly organised event. A pleasure to ride.  Last 10 miles a bit dull, but a minor complaint.  Will be back.

David Haydock - 'Awesome'

*****

Great registration process, road signs and marshalling. Thanks for a great day out.

Trevor - 'Awesome'

*****

Great ride, well organised, tasty food.

Nick Barnett - 'Awesome'

*****

Fantastic event.  well organised, great route, helpful Marshalls and the weather wasn't bad either!

David Jones - 'Awesome'

*****

Thank you and your team very much for an absolutely fantastic day. The longest my poor old legs have done for several years, now looking at the calendar with the sportive list in hand to see if there are any slots… An inspiring day. Hoping to join you again next year.

Adrian - 'Awesome'

*****

A good route, well signed, and well marshalled. Well done. Only gripe is the emails hitting my inbox. Although they do say 'you're receiving this as a result of previous entry' a reminder that receipt does not mean you've entered and an easy way to check would be great. Probably just me though eh!?

Mark Evans - 'Very Good'

****

Another great event, better than ever. So well organised. Congratulations and thank you! And what tasty burgers!

Mike Sheehan - 'Awesome'

*****

What a fantastic day of riding, challenging but wonderful route, great marshals and so well organised including the feed stations. Well done to the organisers and helpers, look forward to next year's event.

Teresa Betton - 'Awesome'

*****

Great route and great organisation/support on the day. Thank you!

Adrian Thorley - 'Awesome'

*****

Congratulations to the whole team for organising an excellent ride. By far and away the best organised ride that I do. From the start to the finish it works brilliantly. Even the  burger was superb, as was the pint of lager!! Just one small comment for next year. Could you please provide slightly longer cable ties for the numbers. For those of us with aero bars they are too short.

David - 'Awesome'

*****

Really enjoyable, excellent signage and organisation.

Alan Morgan - 'Awesome'

*****

Thanks to Darren and all the volunteers for an excellent well-organised event, Fantastic course, Well signposted, Great food Stops and lots of friendly riders. Great day out on the bike!!!

Ian Siddall - 'Awesome'

*****

Great route, great organisation, great day!

Tony - 'Awesome'

*****

Amazing ride and really well organised. Very glad you were plastic-free this year.  Good food and drinks at the end of the ride. Would highly recommend it to anyone that fancies a challenge. Keep up the great work.

Jane Godwin - 'Awesome'

*****

It was a really good day out, fantastic route, and very well organised.

Ashley Dunn - 'Awesome'

*****

Great event and as always superb organisation before and on the day, my only bit of feedback would be to ensure adequate water supplies at Burrington Combe as there was none when we arrived there, fantastic cake at the second stop though.

Tim Cerrone - 'Awesome'

*****

Very well organised as always. Great atmosphere. A 100-mile option for next year? By riding to the start, doing the 75 route and tacking on a mini tour of Weston I got up to 101 miles and I'm a very ordinary, 58 year old cyclist.

Cris Leaman - 'Awesome'

*****

Loved it! Will be back again next year.

Andrew - 'Awesome'

*****

Very well organised ride, good route options. It would be nice if there was a link on the website that showed people how to ride in groups, unfortunately some of the riding standard was below par.

Steve Cotterill - 'Very Good'

****

Great to take part in the GWR again this year. The atmosphere on the day is always special. I particularly notice the quiet buzz at the second stop at Wedmore, where we know the back of the ride is broken, but need to refuel and steel ourselves for the 22 miles of pedalling to the beachfront finish. Thanks GWR.

Ian Bees - 'Awesome'

*****

It's a pleasure to ride the GWR and I can't wait for 2020. Great Atmosphere, Great Route (with options) and a Great Finale with a juicy burger to finish! :o) mmmmm

Nick Siangolis - 'Awesome'

*****

A wonderful ride.  Well planned, well signed, all ran very smoothly.  This was my second time, and I plan to be there next year as well!  Many thanks.

Keith Berryman - 'Awesome'

*****

With perfection in mind, could every letter of the alphabet appear by the tables at the start; it was far, far too early on a Sunday morning for me to work out which group of letters my surname belonged to :)

Paul Lodge - 'Awesome'

*****

Fantastic organisation. Wonderful marshalls. Nice medics. We felt well looked after throughout the ride. Thank you.

Natalie Cook - 'Awesome'

*****

Fantastic organisation from check-in to the BBQ, and bar on the seafront. I went the wrong way at the top of Cheddar Gorge heading off with the other ride Eastwards, for a couple of miles, as the chap I was just behind must have been on that ride.  If there is an overlap next year it would be good to have a larger GWR ride logo where the rides split and perhaps the marshals being more vocal.

Colin Waterhouse - 'Very Good'

****

Always a top day - organisation, the comms, the helpers, the weather, and the sense of achievement, oh and the burger, mustn't forget that reward! Riding the GWR is my annual pilgrimage from Worcestershire. Thanks, Darren et al.

Paul - 'Awesome'

*****

Great route and sign posts.  A bit of grub at the water stops would have been good and maybe more obvious water at the end. Great job.

Mark Smith - 'Very Good'

****

Just a fantastic day. Great route, great organisation and a really wonderful atmosphere from start to finish. Free food was amazing too!

Barry Wharton - 'Awesome'

*****

Would be good to have cold soft drinks option at the end +/- ice cream. Communication between capacity on coach and person loading bikes would prevent bikes being loaded and no space on coach. Minor things as otherwise was a great day and burgers were delicious.

Beverley Coltman - 'Awesome'

*****

Great route with good number of helpers. Really impressed that someone came to check i was ok in Burnham on sea on my way home having an ice cream. Thanks.

Chris Atyeo - 'Awesome'

*****

Yet another fantastic event, a big thank you to all the guys and girls that gave up their time to help. Superbly organised as usual. Roll on next year's event.

Alan Brooks - 'Awesome'

*****

Third year running that I’ve ridden the event and by far the best yet. As always a fabulous atmosphere at the finish and great to meet people from outside the local area who had ridden the event. Thanks to all involved.

John Griffiths - 'Awesome'

*****

Another amazing day, the atmosphere is great and you all do a fabulous job. Only a handful of cyclists give the rest of us a bad name,  which is a shame. A great day.

Emma Davies - 'Awesome'

*****

A great day. Well done! Fundraising/sponsorship is a very difficult area for participants to secure annual  ‘repeat business’. In order to attract new participants each year, who may well be motivated by personal/family circumstances, then perhaps a shorter, (26 mile ‘marathon’) alternative route may have to be considered? 57 miles may deter some potential participants. Best wishes.

Alan Shaw - 'Awesome'

*****

The 2019 ride was another fantastic day out that I really enjoyed. If it was possible to find a route to turn the longest option into a 100-miler that would be an amazing challenge I would love to do.

Martin Green - 'Awesome'

*****

What a great day. Good organisation and terrific atmosphere. Only thing was we could have done with some toilets at the end. Thanks again to the marshals.

Peter Gray - 'Awesome'

*****

You should provide actual water stops where we can stop and refresh our water bottles or grab a quick cold drink. I cycled 66 miles and had only 2 stops, I do understand that you need to keep your expenditure tight so you make as much profit as possible. Perhaps add in at least one more. Apart from that keep up the great work!!!

Jason Hyde - 'Awesome'

*****

Fabulous day out. Thank you. We were novice riders in such events with little experience of rides such as these. There may be a place for providing a few biking do's and don’ts  before the event, such as how to pull in safely while in a peloton, so us beginners do not get yelled at by the professionals. Otherwise it was brilliantly organised and a great fun event. I look forward to next year.

Carolyn Shepherd - 'Awesome'

*****

Fantastically organised, great atmosphere and a pleasure to ride.

David Eidman - 'Awesome'

*****

Another fabulous event thank you! I've done this on my own for the fifth time now, and it is ultra friendly, and so well organised. Don't change a thing. Loved it!

Adrian Collins - 'Awesome'

*****

Transport home didn't work so well this year. Bus departure was meant to be 3.15pm, but people still getting on the coach at 3.35 pm. Then a 20-minute wait for the van with our bikes to arrive after a long, tiring day. Worked better previous year with trailer attached to transport. Will reconsider if £15 each is good value next time.  Favourite bit of the route is just after the school stop, least favourite is the traffic of uninspiring Burnham. Great marshals, great cake, great burger.

Sonya Bryson - 'Very Good'

****

An excellent day. Really well organised. Hopefully the weather will be as good next year!

Tony Monks - 'Awesome'

*****

A really well organised event. Excellent, clear and frequent signage, a choice of manageable routes and a fantastic turnout. Excellent to see so much at the finish line too. After 75 miles the burger was welcome! Not my first GWR and definitely not my last. Thanks to all involved.

Jody Lowe - 'Awesome'

*****

Hi there, it was a fun day and ride so thanks! The only ‘nice to have’ would’ve been an ice bath at the end...I’ve seen them at other events so it’s possible!

Dickon Langdon - 'Awesome'

*****

Thanks to you and your team for all the effort put into organising the day and a special thanks to the marshals who spent hours in the heat.

Alan Bennett - 'Awesome'

*****

This was my first GWR and it won’t be my last! My Aunt and I took part and pushed ourselves further than ever. We did the 57 mile route and were chuffed to get to the top of Burrington Coombe in one go together. It was such a lovely day and the atmosphere was joyous! Big thanks to everyone who had a part to play and an extra thank you to John for my massage at WSM! See you next time!

Sarah - 'Awesome'

*****

Loved the alternative diversion around Priddy, hated the steep downhill descent  off the Mendips.

Hannah Sweeney - 'Very Good'

****

This was our first GWR and I have to say how impressed we were. Everything from the smooth organisation at registering, the fantastic refreshment stops, to the really great quality food at the end was absolutely amazing. Hope to be back next year.

Steve Bartram - 'Awesome'

*****

You should really be proud of running this event. Very friendly staff and great support between the riders. The course and its variety of options showcase the area at its best. The sheer absence of alpha types and meat-heads (in my experience) makes this my favourite sportive every year.

Daniel Hawthorne - 'Awesome'

*****

First ride such as this and loved it. Exceptionally well organised and was a joy to be part of it. I was doing it for another Charity and in hindsight wish I had done 50/50 with the event charity- so maybe a “more forceful” request to sign up or share any money raised. Appreciate that's an extremely difficult ask. Maybe part of the entry could go to the charity but again that risks putting some people off. Just thoughts - but I’ll be back and next year will support the main charity. Thanks for the fun.

James - 'Awesome'

*****

Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation of and running of the event on the day. Impressed!

Laurence Andrews - 'Awesome'

*****

My husband and I just had the best day! Such a well organised event, everyone was so kind and helpful and encouraging us right to the very end. It was well worth doing...if anything just for the amazing burger at the end!

Sarah Bartram - 'Awesome'

*****

Very well organised and great route, which was well sign posted. Keep up the good work!!

Dominic Anderson - 'Awesome'

*****

Congratulations to Darren & the team on yet another flawless event. Each year I wonder how they can top the previous one but yesterday was just amazing, the best yet. This was number seven for me & I can’t wait until number eight!!

Paul Rogoll - 'Awesome'

*****

The Feed station was too far-in for the longer ride. It needed to be at the top of Cheddar to break the ride up. Or have two feed stations. Cheers.

Wayne Taylor - 'Very Good'

****

A brilliant event - so well organised, completely inclusive and a very friendly atmosphere. The course options are such a good idea to add extra challenge with the main route being mostly away from main roads and through lovely scenery.  A fantastic way to start the summer - thank you!

Ben Houghton - 'Awesome'

*****

This was my third time of doing the Great Weston Ride and I hope to be back for my fourth outing next year. My only criticism is minor that it would have been beneficial to have a Marshal on the roundabout as you approached Burnham sea front. This may have been just the timing of when we approached. Overall I think it’s a brilliant route with great support and a fabulous BBQ at the finish.

Nicola - 'Awesome'

*****

Great route, 2nd year of undertaking this well organised and very scenic sportive. Support from other riders, route Marshals and volunteers was awesome. See you next year.

Simon Marshallsay - 'Awesome'

*****

Loved the ride and the signage was excellent. That said, I don't think I had appreciated how hilly it was going to be. I'm a fairly novice rider (30ish miles is my normal length) and I found portions of it particularly tough so I think it would be good to be more up front about that.

Rob Pellow - 'Awesome'

*****

Another year and another great day. Well organised and super weather.

Derek - 'Awesome'

*****

Route was great, lots of support along the way. Sadly some appalling riding & not necessarily from the less experienced.  I need to think food next year as there was nothing I could eat at the food station or at the end. Bummer if you are gluten free & vegan - please combine the two or offer a service where I could hand over some food in a cool box etc for safe keeping & access at the end - I'd pay for this. Transport back was great & very well organised. Overall excellent & will be back next year.

Annette Spear - 'Awesome'

*****

1st timer. Thought the day was organised brilliantly, from the pre-event transport to the perfect signage throughout to the fab refreshments available. Only nag would be the printable route info made it look like the 3rd optional route skipped the second refreshment stop, but in light of the whole day's proceedings it's a minor quibble. Really enjoyed it, look forward to participating again, many thanks to all involved in the organisation.

Dave Knight - 'Awesome'

*****

Extremely well-organised event. Plenty of support for riders. Only one small criticism, there was no water at the Burrington Coombe refreshment stop. Three empty containers. Had to queue up in the café!!!!

Gary Cross - 'Awesome'

*****

This event is really well organised & has a great atmosphere. No silly timing chips here, just a great, friendly, inclusive event.

Mark Elvin - 'Awesome'

*****

Well it's the day after the big event and whilst the legs are a bit achy I can't believe I've just cycled 107km in one day! I've always wanted to enter this but it usually clashes with our holiday but not this year so with a bit of trepidation I signed up. I was worried that as most of my cycling is pootling along the Bristol to Bath cycle path I wouldn't be up to it (OK, there are a couple of killer hills but nothing that couldn't be strolled up) and would hold everything up but I have to say the support received from everyone - the Sport Billy's, Marshalls, fellow walkers and even the photographers - was amazing.

The general consensus on the coach on the way back was how well organised the whole event was - a credit to you and the whole team who made this amazing day amazing! So, I just want to say a big thank-you for my introduction to the world of Sportif and hope you go on to raise plenty for the charities. Great route, great organisation and a great day.

Tony - 'Awesome'

What a fantastic well-organised event - really impressed. Helen and I really enjoyed it, knackered now but wish there were more like that around the area. Well done and hope you raised lots for the charity.

Just wanted to thank you for an amazing day yeaterday. First time my hushand and I have done the GWR and we will definitely be back. Fabulous route, challenging in places with great support and atmosphere. Well done to everyone involved in putting on such a great event.

Another brilliantly organised event that just gets better and better. I have completed the ride about eight times now and will be back again next year.  Even the weather was perfect. The ‘Protein Balls’ are a superb addition. Very tasty, filling and delicious!

Really enjoyable and lovely to see all the smiling faces of the helpers and marshals who are so helpful, kind and friendly. The welcome at the finish is second to none, made even better by the free burgers and much-needed massage.  Replacing water bottles with the standpipe at the finish is another inspired way of staying plastic-free and helping save the environment while keeping everyone hydrated. This is another example of how the ride evolves and looks to get better and better. Well done Darren and team!!
